Advocating for Fresh: Continuing the Fight Beyond Capitol Hill

Last week, Bryan Barsness represented Prophet North America’s office at the International Fresh Produce Association’s Washington Conference - one of the most critical events in the fresh produce and floral industry calendar. More than just a conference, this gathering serves as the front line for advocacy, where industry leaders come together to drive real change through direct engagement with lawmakers and federal agencies.

From labor reform and supply chain efficiency to sustainability and food safety, our industry’s top priorities were taken straight to the steps of Congress and the Administration. These aren’t abstract policy debates - they’re grounded in the real, daily challenges faced by growers, shippers, suppliers, and retailers across the country.

We’re proud to be part of a community that doesn’t just talk about advocacy - we show up for it. Whether in front of Members of the U.S. House of Representatives or the Senate, we made one thing clear: fresh produce isn’t a luxury - it’s a necessity. And the policies that shape our industry must reflect the critical role we play in feeding our nation.

But advocacy doesn’t end when the conference wraps up. Real change requires consistency, commitment, and collaboration. It means continuing the conversation long after the flights home and the Hill meetings end.

💪 Let’s keep the momentum going.
